Heavy rains lashed parts of India on Saturday, including Delhi, Maharashtra, and other parts of the country. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that Delhi is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall today. The Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC) in Delhi said on Saturday, “Light to moderate intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of few places of Delhi, NCR ( Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Faridabad) Rewari, Bawal, Nuh (Haryana) Hapur, Gulaoti, Siyana, Sikandrabad, Bulandshahar.”
In Maharashtra, four people have died in rain-related incidents across the state in the last 24 hours, taking the total deaths to 101 since June 1. One person was killed in Kolhapur due to a structure collapse, while another three died due to flash floods in Yavatmal, Nagpur and Sindhudurg. A total of 872 families were shifted to safer places in seven districts of state, including 119 in Gadchiroli, 45 in Thane, 12 in Yavatmal, 16 in Mumbai Suburban, seven in Nagpur, 60 in Chandrapur 60 and 613 in Ratnagiri. In Yavatmal alone 254 houses were damaged.
The IMD has predicted very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Mumbai in next twenty four hours. It has also issued orange alert for the district. Other districts like Pune, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Satara, Bhandara, Gondia, etc are on orange alert. Moreover, The regional meteorological centre, Mumbai said a heavy rainfall activity will continue over parts of Konkan and ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra during next 24 hrs with gradual reduction thereafter.
Following the incessant rains in the financial capital during the last few days, potholes on roads have become a major concern for people. The visuals are from Mumbai’s Santa Cruz area where pothole-ridden roads pose a threat to the safety of commuters. The Modak Sagar Lake whichs is one of the seven lakes supplying water to Mumbai, started overflowing last night at 10.52 pm. Mumbai receives 3,800 MLD (millions of litres per day) water from the seven reservoirs – Bhatsa, Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Tansa, Modak Sagar, Vihar and Tulsi – located in Mumbai, Thane and Nashik districts.
The Regional Meteorological Centre Nagpur has forecast thunderstorm with lightning and heavy rainfall in various districts of Vidarbha. It has issued ‘yellow’ alert for the next four days for Nagpur, Wardha, Buldhana, Gondia, for three days for Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Amravati and for two days for Yavatmal, Buldhana, Akola and Washim.
